Volunteer
Friday on the land is volunteers, industry and family. If you want to be there for it — the build, the first night, the silent disco — this is how you get in.
What you get
A complimentary Root Access wristband, which covers Saturday morning through Sunday night — the whole public festival. You are not paying to work.
Most of what we need is Friday, from morning through to the night. Decorating a space for fifty people takes longer than you would think and it all has to happen in daylight.
What we need help with

Friday morning through Friday night
The big one, and the reason Friday exists. Hanging, rigging, lighting, dressing the space, making a patch of forest look like somewhere. Bring gloves.
- Gate and check-in
Saturday morning, in shifts
Scanning wristbands, checking names, pointing people at their camping zone. The first face anyone sees, so it matters more than it sounds.
- Safety and welfare
Saturday and overnight, in shifts
Keeping an eye out and being the sober person who notices. There is no first-aid station here, so this shift is the person someone finds when they need help. Genuinely useful if you have any first-aid training.
- Communal food, if we do it
Saturday, if enough people want one
There is no kitchen here and no catering — everyone brings their own food for the whole stay. If you would like one of those meals eaten together instead, this is the job: finding out how many people are in, agreeing who brings what, and running it on the day. Nothing is provided and it only happens if someone picks it up, so come with a plan rather than an appetite.
- Leave no trace and pack-out
Sunday morning, and Monday if you can stay
The sweep. There is no trash collection here, so this is how the land ends up exactly as we found it. Genuinely the most important shift of the weekend.
- Artist hospitality and runner
Friday and Saturday
Airport and town runs, getting people fed and where they need to be. Needs a car you do not mind putting miles on.
- Load-in and load-out
Friday morning, and Monday
Moving heavy things carefully. Lifting, and the sense not to lift badly.
Before you sign up
- Friday is a working day. You will be on your feet, outdoors, in thin air.
- It is dry camping like everywhere else here: bring your own water, and everything you bring in leaves with you.
- November up here is cold once the sun drops. Bring layers you can work in and a sleeping bag rated colder than you expect.
- We will confirm your role and your call time by email and text before the weekend. If plans change on our end, we will tell you rather than let you find out on arrival.
